Why Do I Write Fantasy?

I have been asked this question a thousand times. My answer was always this: "Because I can escape from reality for a moment and create new worlds and creatures and situations for them to overcome."

True.

But how did I get the inspiration? If you had asked me this two years ago, I would have said it just sprang from my always present love of unicorns. Now I know that this is wrong.

Has anyone ever seen the old movie (well, it's only 30 minutes, but I call it a movie) FIREFLY'S ADVENTURE? It a 'My Little Pony' thing for those who don't know. But it's got this magical land, a dark lord wanting to take over all, and all these other fantasy elements. My sister and I watched it SO much when we were little.

That's where my writing fantasy started. And, for those wondering, my love of science fiction came from the original series of Star Trek. Go figure. :)

Some good, steadfast influences. The other day I admitted to being influenced by my He-man and the Masters of the Universe action figures. So don't be embarrassed.

You liked My Little Pony too? I was nuts about them when I was a kid. It made me start writing stories about unicorns.

After a while I realized I wasn't bringing anything particular new to the table (most of my unicorns were cliched and had cutesy-wutesy pony names like "Mistroamer"). It still contributed to my love of fantasy, though, so there was a happy ending.

If I was embarrassed about admiting I like My Little Pony, I wouldn't admit it. Heck, if you look at my profile, I proudly state that I'm a Miley Cyrus fan. It doesn't matter where we were inspired or what inspired us. What matters is that it did. :D

Oh, in case anyone's curious, I still have several of my My Little Pony figurines. :)

I don't know who Miley Cyrus is, I'm afraid. <-- not hip

But I do know that some pony figures are very valuable on eBay now. :)

Miley is a Disney Channel star. If you've ever heard of Hannah Montana, that's her.

And I noticed that! Maybe I should go through the ones I still have and see how much they're worth, just for kicks. :)

Well I'm sure you can guess I've never seen that movie haha but childhood movies are always a good thing to remember :). Though I must say I find it hard to imagine Sydney watching that movie haha :)

We learn something new everyday.

Yes. She and Brandon watched it the other day and I was like, "Really?" :)
